HERE IS SOME OF MY FAVORITE SHIT ON THE PLANET.
I'm often asked what I read, listen to, love, and adore. Who are the people that inspire me? What are my favorite things?
Here they are in one convenient list. The books, tunes, thinkers, and things and I resonate with most.
BOOKS I LOVE:
Oh, goodness, where to begin?!
Here is a list of more than 120 of my favorite books. Also, here is a list of books that my podcast guests have written or recommended.
For more ideas, check out this article I wrote called '20 Books We Wish the World Would Read'. Below are eight that I especially I adore. Click the title below to learn more about each.
The Little Prince - Probably my favorite book. If you haven't heard of it, I am SO excited for you to discover this little piece of perfection.
The Prophet - In my opinion, the best book of poetry there is. I've carried this gem across multiple continents. It's as insightful as it is beautiful. A masterpiece.
Shantaram - This book. This fucking book. Wow. Nearly every page has some exceptionally stunning insight or description. It's poetry. It's mind-blowing adventure. It's jaw-dropping. Read it.
Bird by Bird - One of the best books on writing I've read. Anne Lamott is an absolute treasure.
Daring Greatly - I adore Brené Brown, and this is her best book. Inspiring and brilliant.
Long Walk to Freedom - It's Nelson Fucking Mandela. His story is just insanely good.
Tuesdays with Morrie - The book I have probably gifted the most. It's just so, so good.
Man's Search for Meaning - Just an extraordinary tale of suffering and survival during the Holocaust. If you want some perspective in your own life, read this. Wow.
PODCASTS I LOVE:
I recently listened to Michelle Obama’s podcast and I honestly have to admit: Mine is better. Click here to check it out.
I am pretty varied on these, but some of my favorites include The ManTalks Podcast, The Mark Groves Podcast, the Amber Hawken Podcast, and then others by Tim Ferriss and Lex Fridman. Recently, I devoured Revisionist History and a few from NPR, including Hidden Brain and Invisibilia. I usually try to devour the guest or the topic instead of the podcast, but those are all great starting points. Oh, and I’ve been digging Bankless and the Proof podcast.
RANDOM SHIT I LOVE:
I'm a pretty minimal and mellow dude, a simple man who has lived out of a van and a backpack a few times. However, there are a few things I cannot go without. These are my favorite things.
(Click the title below to learn more about each. Again, sometimes your purchase means I make a few bucks.)
Grammarly. If you write a lot of emails or content and you don’t use Grammarly, I am about to change your life. I’ve used this software for years, and it is the easiest and best way I know of to become a better writer. It’s fast, integrates with all major websites, and will catch countless errors and typos while also making great suggestions for clarity. Everything I write gets passed through Grammarly. Period. (I just wrote this paragraph and it added a comma and removed two others.) Get a free month here.
Coinbase. Long Distance Love Bombs now accepts Bitcoin for any online course, print, or coaching package you wish to purchase. If you don't own Bitcoin yet, click here and sign up. When you buy $100 worth of Bitcoin, you will get an extra $10 bonus for free (I'll get it too - win/win!). It's not going away, and is the future of finance, in my opinion. NOTE: This isn't financial advice, do your own research, and I'm not an expert, just a dork who shares what he thinks is interesting.
Cured Nutrition. The highest quality, most in integrity, best CBD products on the market. I adore these products, use them, and even reached out for them to sponsor my podcast. They’re not just CBD - they also include medicinal mushroom blends and adaptogens. SO GOOD. Start with Zen. It’s a game-changer for evening relaxation and sleeping soundly.
Earth Tonics. My friend, Daron, is dating my friend, Brendan, who I have known for 20 years. I’ve stayed at her house. I have visited her studio. And I have used her products nightly for a while now. THEY ARE INSANELY GOOD. Truly. The highest quality stuff and they’re infused with love and fairy dust. Check them out here. Your skin will thank you.
Bose Noise-Cancelling Headphones - Friend, these are the real deal. Everything I've ever written has probably been with these on my ears. That’s not an exaggeration. I wear them every day. I cannot even IMAGINE an airport or flight without them. They're pricey but worth every single penny. Once you've worn and owned these, there is no going back. I'm serious. Click here to check out all the options.
Chuck Ts - The perfect shoe, and basically all I've worn since college.
Burritos, of the vegetarian and breakfast varieties. Period. But if you follow me, you already know this, surely...
Miscellaneous business things I love (click each to learn more):
Sticker Mule. I did a TON of research before I bought the stickers I sell, and this company is wonderful. The stickers are incredibly well done and resilient. I found a few on the Camino de Santiago that I put last year, and they still look amazing after a year in the elements.
17hats. This is the online software I use to run my entire business and it's amazing. From keeping track of clients to automating invoices to checking on emails to scheduling meetings, this thing does it all. I love it and recommend it to everyone I chat with about business stuff. Click the link and you'll save 10% on your subscription. It's worth every penny.
Kajabi. I use this platform to host and run my online course and it's INCREDIBLE. Click here and you'll save 15% off any plan (and I'll make a bit of money too). Totally worth it, and the best option I've seen. It does EVERYTHING you need.
Honey. Okay, if you buy things online and don't use this to save money, I honestly don't know what you're doing with your life. It takes 3 minutes to install on Google Chrome (if you don't have it, just download it and use it to shop, trust me) and set up a free account. Then, whenever you buy something online, you just click the little honey logo in the upper right of the browser and it quickly and AUTOMATICALLY runs through all of the discount codes possible to try and save you money. I just did it this morning and saved $28. It works and it's amazing and you should be using it. I'm serious.
Airbnb. Holy shit. Airbnb is a game-changer. Personally, I'm not a big fan of big hotels. They feel sterile and impersonal to me. They're all the same and it's kind of boring. However, with Airbnb, I can find the perfect place at the perfect price. It's amazing! (Click here to sign up and you'll save $50 off your first trip! Do it. It's a badass experience and I've never once had a problem with the site or a host.)
Uber. It's so rad. You get to meet a new person, enjoy a ride in a random car, and pay less money than a cab. I've had drivers from Africa, Europe, and Asia, and have heard so many great stories. It's fast and easy and fun and I totally recommend trying it out. If you sign up and use my code JEREMYG7543UE, you'll get $20 for FREE ($5 off each of your first four rides!).
TUNES I LOVE:
Bands and singers I currently adore are CAAMP, Rayland Baxter, Ocie Elliot, Gregory Alan Isakov, Leif Vollebekk, Luca Fogale, Ziggy Alberts, and Macklemore, who is one of the greatest poets, in my opinion. (The others are Andrea Gibson and Buddy Wakefield, FYI. They are jaw-dropping and absolutely genius.)
Bands I'll always love include the Bobs (Dylan and Marley), The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, Bright Eyes, Sublime, and then a whole bunch of old punk rock, including Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, the Vandals, Pennywise, NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Bouncing Souls, and Me First and Gimme Gimmes.
Yep, if I was stuck on an island with all those people and all that stuff above, I'd be stoked.
